In few countries are the residents quite as stark-ravingly mad about
soccer as they are in England. Every area street of England seems
to have their own team to root for, and many of them are quite good.
Many English grew up playing soccer – or, at least, when
they weren’t off playing cricket, rugby, or polo. Many English
have continued playing soccer on their local team.
And why shouldn’t the English play soccer? Soccer has been
in English blood since way back when, when somebody purportedly
kicked around a skull for sport. And the rules that we use today
came from the English, too. The English National Football Association
is the first one to ban using hands while playing soccer.
From English soccer, the world has come to know many great players
and teams. Take for instance David Beckham. He is currently one
of the most famous soccer players and one of the most handsome,
at that. Well, he is, at least, known for his good looks and his
marriage to former “Posh Spice.” The two can be seen
out in the public wearing matching outfits and holding hands.
David Beckham is, of course, one of the best soccer players, currently,
too – not just in England, but in the world. His name even
made it into the sleeper hit Bend It Like Beckham, a movie in which
a girl idolizes him and wants to be just like him.
England is also home to Manchester United. Manchester United is
one of the richest soccer clubs in the world. Excuse me, the English
would, of course, say that it is one of the richest football clubs
in the world.
English soccer is one of the most popular sports in England and
will continue to be for many years to come. I’m quite sure
that England plans on having more World Cups than just the one that
they currently have.
